Hi there, I’m Tomás Garza, author of Sunny Spicy Love Fest. I hope you enjoy this celebration of tropical life, culture, and the healing benefits of travel itself. I have always found that good things happen when a person steps outside their front door. My girlfriend Cindy and I spend half the year in the United States, half in Mexico; if you have ever been to Mexico I think you’ll agree that there’s a certain zest, a certain energy here that captivates us and leaves us wanting more, whether it be another vacation or even taking up permanent residence in the sunshine. From the landscape to the color to the cuisine to the warmth and friendliness of its people, Mexico is a special place, and it deserves to be celebrated. Of course there is the warmth of the climate as well; I confess, I love the heat! Of heritage, I’m definitely “GringoMex,” both Mexican and North American. I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which means sunshine and hot chiles; you’ll see my insane and unabashed bias for Mexican food shining through! I have spoken Spanish nearly my whole life–this means some slang finds its way into my writing, so please enjoy!
I have traveled extensively in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean and have lived and worked in Mazatlán, Playa Del Carmen, and Los Reyes, Michoacán. I have spent much of the past four years working in the travel industry, and while I have been to many places, Mexico continues to captivate me, as it does many. There isn’t any one spot that’s my absolute favorite; we are living in different areas right now with a mind to settling someplace eventually, to the extent that’s possible for a traveler! This particular travel journey has been a tremendous ride of personal growth; I invite you to tune in and watch my process. Perhaps I can inspire you in yours.
I hope that you will take from these pages a greater appreciation for tropical nations and cultures that often get a bad rap in the mainstream media. As I take you through my own journeys and my own growth process, I hope you’ll learn something of your own strength as well. Mexico is synonymous with joy, passion, and love (you could say the same about travel in general.) Let some of it rub off on you!
